Following are the minimum requirements for conducting a blood donation camp.
MINIMUM DONOR SIZE
We will require a commitment of atleast 50 donations on any given day. Depending on the size, we can either schedule half day or full day visits.
LOCATION OF CAMPSITE
A location within 25 kms of Jeevan Blood Bank is ideal. Jeevan is currently located at Nungambakkam.
ROOM REQUIREMENTS
We will require atleast two rooms (a donation room and a rest room) of adequate size, with electricity and air-conditioners or fans. You will also need to provide tables and chairs. Before finalisation, a
member of the donor support group
of Jeevan Blood Bank will visit the proposed site to ensure the suitability of the place.
BRINGING JEEVAN MOBILE
If no space is available in your campsite and if rooms are not available, then Jeevan could arrange to send its mobile van. The van is roughly 30 feet long and can accommodate about 10-15 donors.
DONOR ELIGIBILITY AND BLOOD DONATION STEPS
Donor eligibility criteria and steps of blood donation will remain the same as in the blood bank. If you would like to conduct a blood donation camp, please contact us at contact@jeevan.org
GETTING PEOPLE TO SIGN UP
If you ask people, they will come forward. Don't hesitate. The main reason people don't donate blood is because no one has asked them to. Tell them that they could potentially save four lives. If you are planning to organise this within your organisation, please ensure you have the support from senior Management, so that your donors can donate during office hours.
Ask Jeevan for posters and campaign materials.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DONATE ?
It would take approximately 40 minutes for each donor from the time they walk in to the time they go out. The actual blood collection time for one unit of blood takes only 10 minutes. The rest of the time includes pre-donation screening and physical check-ups and post donation rest.
WHO CAN DONATE ?
Almost anyone in good health (no colds or flu) weighing more than 45 kgs and is 18 years or older may donate. For a detailed assessment of donor eligibility see Donor eligibility section. For other questions, see Frequently Asked Questions section.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call Jeevan staff or send us an email at safeblood@jeevan.org. They will help you with the planning and promotion to help make your blood donation camp successful
* Please encourage all donors to eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating * |
