Private Stem Cell Bank
A small step to a healthy future.
Jeevan's private cord blood / stem cell banking initiative will collect, process, test and store your baby's stem cells for a fee. Jeevan will help to preserve your baby's cord blood and ensure that it is available when needed.
Current (November 2011) evidence suggests that the chance of your child needing his or her own cord blood for transplantation (known as autologous transplantation) is very small and could be as low as 1 in 2700. However, it is possible that cord blood derived stem cells could be of use in regenerative medicine.
Jeevan recommends private banking in instances where there is an elder child who could potentially benefit from matching haematopoietic stem cell transplantation from a younger sibling.
All you need to do is to provide details about the current pregnancy, a few medical details and family history for certain medical conditions. Based on this information, and keeping your safety and that of your unborn child's in mind, Jeevan will determine if the cord blood can be collected. Once collected, processed and found fit for storage, your baby's cells will be stored for a period of 21 years.
If at the end of 21 years science supports further storage, this can be availed by you for an additional cost. In the event of someone in the family needing these stored stem cells, a high resolution Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) typing will be done at an additional cost. This test is done to determine the compatibility of the stored stem cells with the intended recipient. If found compatible, for a shipment fee, Jeevan takes responsibility to ship the cells in a special container that will ensure that the temperature during transport is maintained at minus 196 C.
